Personalised grief and loss support, shaped around you.
Deciding to ask for support can feel like a big step.
You may have been thinking about it for some time, or perhaps something has happened recently that has made you realise you don’t want to navigate everything on your own.
You may also be wondering what you’ll be expected to talk about, whether you’ll become overwhelmed, or even whether what you’re experiencing is something you “should” need help with.
You don’t need to have any of that figured out before you contact me.
We begin with a conversation.
Your Experience Is Unique
There is no one-size-fits-all approach to grief.
Two people can experience a similar loss and respond in completely different ways. Your relationship, circumstances, personality, previous experiences and the support around you can all influence what grief feels like for you.
That’s why our work begins with you, rather than with a particular therapy or technique.
I’ll take time to understand what’s been happening, how your loss is affecting you now and what you would like support with.
Together, we can begin to identify what might be most helpful.
Your Free Initial Conversation
Our first step is a free, relaxed initial consultation.
This gives us an opportunity to meet and talk before you make any decisions about working with me.
You can tell me as much or as little as feels comfortable about what has brought you here. I’ll explain how I work, answer your questions and we can talk about what you would like to be different.
It’s also an opportunity for you to get a sense of me.
Feeling comfortable with the person supporting you matters. You are welcome to take some time afterwards to decide whether working together feels right.
There is no pressure and no obligation.
All you’re signing up for is a conversation.
If You Decide to Continue
If we both feel that working together would be helpful, we’ll agree the next steps.
Our sessions will be personalised around your needs rather than following a rigid formula.
I draw upon different elements of my professional training, including Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, NLP, BLAST, Edu-Therapy and coaching techniques. You don’t need to choose which approach you want – that’s something we’ll consider together.
Some sessions may involve talking and understanding more about grief and the way our minds respond to difficult experiences.
At other times, we may focus more on helping you feel calmer, manage overwhelming thoughts and emotions, recognise your existing strengths and resources, or gently begin to think about what you need from the life ahead.
The work may change as your needs change.
You remain at the centre of the process.
You Set the Pace
You won’t be expected to tell me everything in your first session.
There may be things you’re ready to talk about and things you’re not.
Both are okay.
I won’t push you to talk about something before you feel ready, and you don’t need to arrive at each session knowing what you’re going to say.
Sometimes there may be tears.
Sometimes there may be silence.
And sometimes there may be laughter.
There is room for all of it.
We Don’t Have to Focus Only on the Loss
Something else that’s important to know is that our conversations don’t always have to centre on what happened.
Grief can affect sleep, confidence, relationships, work, motivation, identity and our ability to enjoy everyday life.
So our work might sometimes focus on what’s happening around your grief – the parts of life that have become harder since your loss.
You are more than what has happened to you.
Our work can acknowledge your loss while also making space for the whole of you.
What Are We Working Towards?
I won’t ask you to “get over” your grief or encourage you to forget someone or something that mattered.
Instead, we might work towards helping you:
Better understand what you’re experiencing.
Feel calmer and less overwhelmed.
Develop ways of coping with difficult days.
Reconnect with your own strengths and resources.
Rebuild confidence and trust in yourself.
Adjust to changes in your life or identity.
Reconnect with relationships and everyday experiences.
Make space for meaning, enjoyment and hope again.
What that looks like will be different for everyone.
Together, we’ll identify what moving forward means for you.
How Long Will We Work Together?
There isn’t a universal timetable for grief, and I don’t believe there should be a universal timetable for support either.
How long we work together will depend on your circumstances, what you would like help with and the approach we agree is most appropriate.
We’ll review how things are going along the way.
My aim isn’t for you to become dependent on therapy. It’s to help you develop greater understanding, confidence and trust in your own ability to navigate life following loss.
Ultimately, I want you to reach a point where you feel ready to continue without me.
Where We Can Meet
I offer face-to-face sessions from The Garden Room in Warboys, Cambridgeshire, within easy reach of Huntingdon, St Ives, Ramsey, Chatteris and the surrounding areas.
The Garden Room is a private, calm, accessible and welcoming space where our time together is entirely yours.
I also offer online sessions if you would prefer to receive support from your own home or live further afield.
Taking That First Step
You don’t need to wait until things become unbearable.
And you don’t need to be certain that therapy is what you need.
If something has brought you to this page and part of you is wondering whether talking might help, we can simply start there.
One conversation. No pressure. No obligation.
And if we decide that working together feels right, we’ll take the next step together.
